Klout Reportedly Drops The Perks

Klout had a feature called Klout Perks, which let users earn rewards for their influence. These included various products, discounts, and VIP access. Perks were given based on things like location, influential topics, and of course Klout Score.

The feature has reportedly been discontinued. TechCrunch reports that Lithium Technologies, which acquired Klout last year, confirmed that it ended the program. They share a statement from the company’s VP of communications Eric Channing Brown:

“Perks is not core to this, and so we have decided to invest more in other areas of Klout’s data assets and on further integrating Klout into the Lithium product portfolio.”

The report from TechCrunch’s Sarah Buhr notes that Josh Butler, who led Klout Perks has left the company to join startup SocialRank.

Klout does still have a section for Klout Perks on its site, but presumably users won’t be earning them any longer.

While the perks may be gone, Klout itself is getting better as a social media influence measurement tool. Last month, they added YouTube data, which was shockingly absent from the service that claims to “help millions of people unlock their influence”. It now keeps track of YouTube views, likes, and shares.
